Recognising exchange experience

An exchange experience strengthens the participants professional, linguistic and social skills. It is important to make the exchange experience and the skills gained visible to the participants so that they can benefit from it in the long term.

There are very different formats for recognising an exchange experience. They range from a simple confirmation of participation or an entry in the certificates to a comprehensive portfolio of newly acquired skills.

As a first step, the exchange experience and the new skills should be reflected on and discussed with the participants. In this way, the experience can be sustainably anchored and enable the participants to benefit from it in the long term. In a second step, it is important to make the newly acquired skills visible in some form. After all, an exchange experience is a plus in any CV and can open up new career opportunities.

Forms of recognition

As the project organiser, you are responsible for making the participants' exchange experience visible.

  • Reflect on the competences to be acquired/acquired with the participants and record them.
  • Issue a confirmation of participation or request a confirmation of participation. Describe the exchange project (individually or as a group, school visit, project work or work assignment, formof accommodation, ...) and list the period and location. Discuss the skills acquired.
  • If possible, list the exchange experience in certificates, grade sheets, work references or similar documents.
