In detail

During a teaching assignment abroad, you will teach vocational skills at a vocational school or in a training provider within or outside Europe. You will support colleagues in lesson planning and the assessment of VET students/apprentices and conduct lessons independently. As a result, you will familiarise yourself with new professional practices, improve your language skills and gain ideas for your everyday working life at home.

Conversely, you can invite experts from abroad to your institution to teach there and share their knowledge with colleagues.

This activity is funded by the Swiss Programme for Erasmus+. This programme allows Swiss institutions to organise activities similar to the ones funded by the European education programme Erasmus+.

Improve personal and professional competences

During a teaching assignment abroad, you will learn new pedagogical approaches, practise a foreign language and deepen your understanding of the needs of VET students/apprentices. You will also gain an insight into a different educational structure through professional exchanges with colleagues. You will not only benefit professionally, but also personally from a stay abroad. You will also improve your ability to work with people from other cultures. Regardless of whether you go abroad (outgoing) or invite teachers to Switzerland (incoming): We will support your project financially.

Examples:

  • A vocational schoolteacher from Geneva teaches for four weeks at a vocational school in Hamburg.
  • A vocational trainer from Zurich in the metal construction field is supporting a colleague in London for two months with the implementation of a new curriculum.
  • An electromechanics teacher from Brest runs a two-day intensive course in his specialism at a vocational school in St. Gallen.
  • A vocational school in Lausanne and a vocational school in Prague are exchanging marketing teachers for a fortnight.

Internationalisation and team development

Teaching assignments abroad offer participants excellent opportunities to make contacts and build an international network. By taking what you have learnt back into your everyday working life, your colleagues at home will also benefit from your teaching assignment in another location.  In this way, you contribute to the development of an innovative and international culture in your institution.

Planning your stay

To get the most out of your teaching assignment, plan what, where and in which language you would like to teach in advance. Then, network with a suitable partner institution and jointly design the programme for your presence and the content of the courses you will be teaching. Plan a return visit if necessary. You will return to your job at home with new perspectives, know-how for educational practice and international contacts.
