In detail

Prospective teachers can complete an exchange semester in another language region of Switzerland during the course of their studies. During one or two semesters, they gain insights into other teaching methods, expand their pedagogical knowledge, and improve their language skills at the same time. ECTS credits earned at the host institution are generally recognised.

Practising a foreign language and building a network

During a national exchange semester, prospective teachers attend modules and courses that are taught in another national language. They study with students whose mother tongue is different from their own. This experience boosts their language skills and offers the opportunity to gain deep insights into the cultural characteristics of another language region of Switzerland. By collaborating with their peers from another language region, they develop their intercultural competence and build a network with other prospective teachers across language barriers.

Acquire new skills and gain new perspectives

An exchange semester in another language region of Switzerland offers students the opportunity to get to know the school system of another canton. In doing so, they acquire methodological and didactic skills that improve their career prospects in education.

Easy to organise with international offices

An exchange semester starts either in autumn or spring at the beginning of the semester. Students who are interested should contact the International Relations Office of their institution (mobility office). In consultation with the host institution, they will determine the date of the exchange semester. The ECTS credits earned during the semester will be credited in the student's studies, in consultation with the institution at which they are enrolled. The sending institution applies to us for the funding and pays it out to the students. Students are generally responsible for organising their stay (accommodation, travel, etc.) themselves. It is also possible to complete a teaching internship during, shortly before, or after the exchange semester.
