In detail

A class or group of pupils in school or vocational education from Switzerland works together with a class or group of pupils from abroad on a common topic over the course of the school year. It is also possible to do an exchange project with several partner schools from different countries. Exchanges are possible with partner schools worldwide.

On-site meetings between the participating pupils are at the heart of the international exchange project. These ideally reciprocal visits allow for in-depth joint work on the common project topic that the groups of pupils work on over the course of the school year. Class exchanges abroad are funded by the Swiss Programme for Erasmus+. This programme allows Swiss institutions to organise activities similar to the ones funded by the European education programme Erasmus+.

Project-based learning in an intercultural setting

Participating in a class or group exchange with a school abroad offers pupils the opportunity to enhance their skills in teamwork and project management and to work on a topic in depth. In addition, by working with the partner class from abroad, the pupils improve their communication skills and gain intercultural experience in a different school setting. By venturing into new, unfamiliar situations and leaving their own comfort zone, they develop skills such as open-mindedness, independence and self-confidence. For you as a teacher, an exchange is an opportunity to get to know new pedagogical and didactic methods.

Fixed project duration, flexible exchange activities

The pupils jointly work on the topic of the project with their peers from abroad over the course of the school year via online communication. The exchange project starts in June or December, depending on the application deadline. The on-site encounters between the pupils can last from 2 to 30 days. How you organise the exchange is up to you.

Topic of the theme-related project work

International projects by groups of pupils do not necessarily have to be linked to foreign language lessons. You are free to define the topic of the project. The projects can be subject-specific or interdisciplinary. Ideally, you should involve the pupils in the choice of the topic and in the planning of the project.
